Debuting in the fall of 2005, Invasion was one of several sci-fi-themed shows that came on the heels of Lost's success. Unlike Threshold and Surface, Invasion secured a prime time slot right after Lost, airing at 10 p.m. on Wednesdays on ABC. Shaun Cassidy, known for producing American Gothic, created and produced the series which kicks off with a destructive hurricane approaching a Florida city where a modern family finds themselves caught in the midst of the chaos. Park ranger Russell Groves (Eddie Cibrian) and his wife Larkin (Lisa Sheridan), an inquisitive TV reporter, live with Larkin's brother Dave (Tyler Labine) who spends his time blogging about conspiracy theories and aliens. Russell's children, Rose (Ariel Gade) and Jesse (Evan Peters), split their time between their father and their mother Mariel Underlay (Kari Matchett), a doctor who has remarried the town's shady sheriff Tom (William Fichtner) and has a daughter named Kira (Alexis Dziena). A series of strange events unfold during the hurricane, with Rose witnessing mysterious lights dropping into the water and Mariel developing a strange connection to water after disappearing and reappearing in a swamp unharmed. Dave's investigation into the lights leads to a startling discovery, while the sheriff's secrets start to unravel. Drawing comparisons to The X-Files and 24, Invasion delivers enough mystery and intrigue to keep viewers engaged. Despite its coveted time slot following Lost, Invasion was ultimately canceled after its first season, leaving fans hanging with a major cliffhanger that may never be resolved. Before committing to a full season, viewers should proceed with caution.
